FSA / Commuter Benefits Option
Flexible Spending Account
Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District
NOTE: Effective July 1, 2025, the District recently made the decision to change FSA Administrators. Our new Administrator will be Ameriflex. Any claims incurred in the current plan year, but not yet submitted, should be sent to WEX for reimburesement within the 91-day runout period.
Employees eligible for District health plans are eligible for the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) / Commuter Benefits option. These options help you manage out-of-pocket costs and lower your taxable income by setting aside your contribution amount before taxes are applied.
**Your benefits are more affordable
**Your spendable income increases
**You pay less in taxes
Our FSA administrator is Ameriflex. Be sure to create your new online account asap. Need help? Contact Ameriflex via toll-free phone at (888) 868-3539.
What is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) / Commuter Benefits Account?
With an FSA / Commuter Benefits account, you can cover the cost of health care, dependent, care, and/or commuter expenses with “before-tax” dollars, almost like an automatic tax deduction. The dollar amount you choose will be transferred from each paycheck, before taxes are deducted, and contributed to your account(s). Then, use your debit card to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses or submit a claim for reimbursement.

How much can I elect to contribute to my accounts?
Each year, you choose an amount within a given range to be transferred to your account(s) from your paycheck. It is recommended that you base your designated amount on predictable expenses. The amount you choose will be transferred in equal installments from each paycheck to your account throughout the year. Ranges are announced during each FSA / Commuter Benefits Open Enrollment. 2025-2026 ranges are as follows:
Health FSA: $100 minimum / $3,300 maximum
Dependent Care FSA: $100 minimum / $5,000 maximum
Commuter Benefits:
• Qualified parking monthly maximum: $325
• Qualified vanpooling/transit passes monthly maximum: $325
Note: you must have funds in your commuter account before you can spend them; you can change your commuter contribution amount at any time.
**Please be advised that Ameriflex charges an annual administrative fee of $40.56. This is collected by payroll deduction.**
What out-of-pocket medical expenses are eligible for reimbursement?
Specific out-of-pocket expenses are eligible for reimbursement from your account. Visit Ameriflex Eligible Expenses for help.
When can I enroll?
You can join the FSA by submitting an application to the Human Resources Department during each Open Enrollment, typically held each spring for the upcoming July 1 through June 30 plan year. Once enrolled, you must re-enroll each year to continue in the program.
The Commuter Benefits option is a month-to-month benefit, so you can enroll / disenroll at anytime during the year.
What happens if I have money left in my account at the end of the year?
• Health FSA: be aware of the "use-it-or-lose-it" rule; any funds left in your account after any applicable grace period/carryover is applied are forfeited.
• Commuter Benefits: any funds left in your account at the end of the year can be carried into the next year, if you continue to participate.
Can I access my account online?
After your effective date, you can register for an Ameriflex online account. Once registered, you can view transaction history, submit claims online, report a lost or stolen debit card, and much more.
